26 firms make Top Track list

TWENTY SIX North West companies have made the Sunday Times Grant Thornton Top Track 250, a league table of the UK’s leading mid-market private companies.
The companies all increased sales or profits by at least 10% year-on-year, achieving combined sales of £7.7bn and employing more than 37,000 people.
New entrants include Northwich-based online retailer The Hut Group, Crewe-based cereals business Morning Foods, and Winsford car dealer AvailableCar.
The biggest mid-market private company in the region is Handforth-based Pets at Home which had sales of £598m in the year to March. It was in fifth place overall, up from 22nd. Warrington bookmaker Betfred jumped more than 100 places from 186th to 48th.
The Top Track 250 is sponsored by Grant Thornton and Barclays, and compiled by Fast Track, the Oxford-based networking events and research company.
David Maxwell, partner at Grant Thornton, said: “It is great to see private mid-sized businesses – including many which Grant Thornton has helped support – making such a positive contribution to the UK economy.
“Impressive leadership is ensuring they prosper despite tough trading conditions, with many companies expanding through their international operations and all making sure they retain and engage talented people in the UK.”
