Appointments: Boler’s Cheshire role; Hurst swamped by graduates & more

MARK Boler, chief executive of The Mere Golf Resort has been appointed as one of Marketing Cheshire’s ambassadors.

The organisation’s Ambassador Programme acts as a promotional platform to sell Cheshire as a destination to potential investors.

Mr Boler said: “My roots are firmly grounded in Cheshire having grown up in the county myself, developed The Mere resort and established my family locally too.

“I look forward to working closely with Marketing Cheshire to ensure the county benefits from the investment required to continue its position as one of the best places to live, study and work in the UK.”

NORTH West accountancy firm Hurst has recruited three graduate trainees after receiving more than 350 applications for the posts.

The successful candidates are Laura Mackowiak, 22, from Leigh, who studied mathematics and management at Loughborough University, Ryan Niblock, 22, from Belfast, who studied accounting and finance at Liverpool John Moores University, and James Kean, 23, from Marple, who has a BSc in business management from Sheffield University.

Anthony Woodings, the partner responsible for the firm’s graduate recruitment programme, said: “We introduced a tougher recruitment process this year but still received more than 100 applications for each available post, and the trio we have selected are truly the cream of the crop with great futures ahead of them.”

Meanwhile, Hurst has recruited Emma Baker as an audit senior and has promoted Elizabeth Gallagher to associate partner in the firm’s specialist tax advisory team.

A REGULATORY lawyer specialising in fitness to practice cases has joined the Manchester office of law firm Ward Hadaway.

Stuart Sutton, who joins the firm as an associate, counts accountants, GPs and clinicians facing professional misconduct allegations among his clients.

Mr Sutton said: “Ward Hadaway is already making its presence felt in Manchester and across the North West as an emerging player in the market and a firm which is offering something new to clients.

“I hope to be able to further broaden the range of services which the firm offers from its Manchester office and I am looking forward to working with my new colleagues.”

MOORHOUSE’S Brewery has appointed former Burnley FC and Blackburn Rovers’ midfielder Marshall Burke as head of its sales team.  

With 25 years’ experience in the pub industry, Mr Burke was previously sales manager for the free trade with Daniel Thwaite in Blackburn.

After retiring from professional football, the 54-year-old spent several years with Scottish & Newcastle, Chorley, before taking sales positions with Vaux Breweries in Rochdale and then Boddingtons (Whitbread), Manchester. In 2000 he joined Thwaites, firstly as key accounts manager.
