GB expands ID fraud service to Brazil and India

CHESTER-based identity checking firm GB Group is expanding its verification services into several emerging markets.

The company said it can now check the identitites of people in Brazil, India, Mexico, Spain and Belgium which account for some 3.6 billion people, or half the world’s population.

GB can vet the authenticity of an individual’s personal details and is targeting the service at companies that trade overseas or with foreign buyers online.

It said: “Not only will this meet global compliance requirements, such as those relating to age restricted products and services, anti-money laundering guidelines and know your customer legislation, it will also help companies protect themselves from the growing problems of ID fraud and financial crime and make acquiring and transacting with customers quicker, simpler and less risky.”

Chief executive Richard Law said: “Cross border commerce is an exciting prospect, but it is important that businesses do not open their doors to the world without putting safe measures in place to protect and secure their business. The fact that we can now offer businesses safe transactions with over half of the world’s population further strengthens our position as the provider of the best identity verification coverage in the world; something of which we’re hugely proud.”

Last week the company said its expects interim operating profits, adjusted for interest, tax, and other charges, to be up from £1.5m to £2.3m.
