IoD to examine future of manufacturing

THE Institute of Directors North West is turning its attention to the future of manufacturing at an event this week.

The Way Forward for Manufacturing at the Museum of Science and Industry on November 14 will examine the role the sector can play in the UK’s economic recovery.

Speakers include Dr Hamid Mughal, director of global manufacturing at Rolls Royce, Paul McCaffrey from the UK Government Office for Science, Ian Brown of the Blackburn wallpaper firm Graham & Brown, and Matthew Kimpton-Smith of Northwich engineer Cygnet Group.

Tony Attard, chairman of the IoD North West, said: “The power of the UK manufacturing sector to elevate our country’s economy cannot be underestimated. The industry accounts for 10% of the UK GDP, and employs 2.5 million people.

“The North West has a rich legacy of manufacturing success, and a recent boost in the sector indicates that it will continue to be a valuable asset on a regional and national level.

“The event aims to stress the viability of manufacturing in the UK business world, as well as to open up the opportunity to learn about the sector for those that might be interested in what the industry has to offer them.”

The event is sponsored by Weightmans and Lloyds Banking Group.
