Plans in for George Henry Lee hotel

PLANS have been submitted for a hotel conversion at the George Henry Lee Building in Liverpool.

The scheme, first mooted in August, has been put forward by Birmingham-based Gethar Ventures.

It wants to convert the floors above TK Maxx on the Church Street side of the building into a 100 to 114-bed aparthotel with a restaurant.

The building, currently part of the Grosvenor Developments portfolio, is under contract for an undisclosed sum from Gethar. The sale is being handled by Mason Owen.

The project will be its first in the North West although it currently has investments in two other hotel projects in its home city – one a very similar scheme involving the £16m conversion of the former HSBC building and a possible new café/restaurant.

When the scheme was first unveiled Gethar director Anthony McCourt said: “Liverpool is such a vibrant, exciting city and was a key-destination city for our business to develop and set up stall here. The project should help create 80 construction and end-use jobs, so is great news for the city.”
