Prest maintains growth through acquisition

A FINANCIAL services firm based in Stockport has bought one of its neighbouring rivals for an undisclosed sum.

Prest Financial Services has purchased independent financial adviser AJ Smith and Co as it looks to strengthen its services to new and existing customers.

Manchester law firm Lockett Loveday McMahon acted for Prest while Turner Parkinson and IFA Mentor acted for AJ Smith.

Prest Financial Services’ managing director, Graham Prest, said: “We identified that there was a great deal of synergy between AJ Smith and Co and our own business, along with an opportunity to spread the range of our existing client base, so it presented a very good fit.

“The deal is part of our ongoing strategy to develop and grow the company through the acquisition of high quality businesses.”

Andrew Smith, former director at AJ Smith and Co, will now work as a consultant for Prest Financial Services.

Prest was established in 1961 in Hazel Grove by Graham Prest’s father, Jim.

It has since gained a solid reputation for providing reliable, independent financial advice, supplemented by Graham Prest’s expertise on personal taxation matters.
