BT to create 240 Liverpool jobs

TELECOMS giant BT is to create 240 jobs in Liverpool.
The majority of the roles, being created to support the growth of the company’s high-speed broadband services, will be in customer service, while there will also be some managerial roles.
BT, which already has 1,500 staff in the city, said the new recruits would all be based at its Lancaster House offices in Old Hall Street.
Mike Blackburn, BT’s regional director for the North West, said: “BT is already one of Liverpool’s largest private sector employers and we are keen to further expand our presence in the city.
Liverpool is a great city to do business in. It has excellent communications with the rest of the UK and further afield, and we have been impressed by the quality of the people we have recruited in the past.”
Mr Blackburn, pictured, said the company would be seeking outgoing people for the roles. Experience in customer service is not requirement.
Mayor Joe Anderson welcomed the news as “a real vote of confidence” in Liverpool.
He added: “We are committed to doing all we can to bring additional jobs and investment to the city, and this announcement means that a significant number of good quality positions will be created for local people by a bluechip employer.”
Recruitment begins today and after training, it is hoped the first advisers will be ready to start work next March. BT expects to have filled the roles by next autumn.
Around 1,300 of BT’s 1,500 Liverpool staff work for Liverpool Direct Limited, an outsourced council customer service centre, which has been operating since 2001.
