Accountant seeks future dragons

AN ACCOUNTANT from RSM Tenon is assessing the next wave of students looking to take up places in Dragons’ Den star Peter Jones’s National Enterprise Academy (NEA) in Manchester.
The NEA, founded in September 2008, is the UK’s first non-profit educational institution dedicated to teaching enterprise and entrepreneurship. It trains around 75 young school leavers each year and offers two qualifications to 16-18 year-olds.
RSM Tenon’s Andrew Barnes sits on the board of the academy and will help to run workshops aimed at teaching the young entrepreneurs accounts and how to draw up business plans.
“The NEA is a great initiative for young people who want to experience other ways of working beyond studying set subjects, and are keen to get their teeth into the business world,” he said.
“With universities making cutbacks and many students wishing to avoid the financial burden of a degree, it is important for young people finishing their GCSEs to know that there are alternative ways develop their skills in order to enter the workforce.
“I would urge all young people who think they have the potential to be entrepreneurs of the future to apply for this year’s NEA programme.”
The deadline to apply for a place at the academy is September 1.
