Appointments: Jerrold beefs up board; Phil Adams; Berg; Edwards & Co; Lloyds; City Residential

JERROLD Holdings, the Cheadle-based secured lender to the residential and commercial property sectors, has appointed  Gary Jennison to the new role of deputy chief executive.

Mr Jennison, who also becomes chief executive of Jerrold’s two retail operating businesses Blemain Finance & Cheshire Mortgage Corporation, has 35 years of retail banking and finance experience.

He joins from Payzone, the payments processor, where he was managing director and oversaw a significant turnaround project. Prior to that he was chief eExecutive of Secure Trust Bank, the retail subsidiary of Arbuthnot Banking Group, and before that he managed the UK branch network of Barclays Bank.

Private equity investor Steve O’Hare has also joined the board as a non-executive director, representing Jerrold shareholder Equistone Partners Europe.

PHIL Adams, chief executive of investment bank Altium, has been appointed as chairman to the University of Manchester’s IP Group spin-out fund.

The £5m proof-of-principle Fund has been launched by the University of Manchester through its technology transfer company UMI3 and IP Group, a listed developer of intellectual property businesses. The funding facility has been created to identify and develop new spin-out companies.

Mr Adams said: “I am very excited to be involved in this partnership between Manchester University and IP Group. I think it is important for the UK in general, and regional economies in particular, that the superb scientific and technical knowledge and knowhow in our universities is stimulated to enable new companies to be formed and ultimately spin out successfully.”

Clive Rowland, UMI3 chief executive, said: “The proof-of-principle stage is a critical one for us in the university technology transfer business. It is the bridge between the ideas and inventions that we identify at the University and having something that has been reduced to practice, with strong patents ‘around them’, to be able to demonstrate to industry and investors.

MANCHESTER commercial law firm, Berg, has bolstered its real estate offering with the appointment of Joanne Cookson as an associate solicitor.

Miss Cookson, who has 13 years’ experience in commercial property work, joins from Cheshire East Council where she was member of the in-house team, advising on local authority projects. Prior to that, she was in private practice for over 10 years.

She said: “I have always held Berg in high regard so when the opportunity arose to join the real estate team, I was delighted to accept. I look forward to working with the team and helping clients to manage their commercial property matters.”

Berg’s senior partner, Reuben Berg, added: “Joanne’s wealth of experience and extensive network of contacts will bolster what is already a strong team. She will be a great asset to the firm in further developing its real estate offering and providing practical solutions to all client matters.”

LLOYDS Bank Commercial Banking has strengthened its mid markets team in the North West with the hire of Simon Atkinson and promotion of Kat Rogers.

Mr Atkinson joins as a relationship director and has previously worked for Yorkshire Bank, and most recenty Handelsbanken.

Miss Rogers  has been promoted to the role of associate relationship manager, after spending six years as an account manager.

TOBY Nield is to join the office team at Manchester property agent Edwards & Co in January.

He is leaving P3 to work alongside Andrew Timms, Ed Keany, Richard Dinsdale and Nigel Hunter.
