Administrators appointed to Lealaw solicitors

A STOCKPORT law firm co-owned by music and entertainment lawyer Stephen Lea has gone into administration.

Administrators from accountancy firm Leonard Curtis were appointed to Cheadle Hulme-based Lealaw, which traded as Lea & Company, last month.

Mr Lea, whose clients have included Take That, The Charlatans, Happy Mondays and Tony Wilson, left the firm in 2010 but continued as a consultant. Since then he has also worked with Manchester and Knutsford-based Nexus Solicitors.

Despite Mr Lea’s entertainment background the firm diversified, moving into commercial property, conveyancing, debt recovery and wills and probate. According to records at Companies house, he held 5% of the shares while fellow solicitor Alan Berry held the rest. The firm had total liabilities of around £440,000 in the year to June 2012.

TheBusinessDesk.com understands live cases have been transferred to Solis Law which is based at the same address. Its directors are Alan Berry and Amy Austin. No one at Leonard Curtis could be reached for comment.
