Revenues climb at Vimto maker Nichols

VIMTO maker Nichols saw sales continue to increase last year, rising 2% to £109.9m.

In a pre-close trading update, the Newton-le-Willows-based group said growth was stronger in the second half, up 4%. Domestic sales grew by 5% in the final six months and by 2% across the year to a total of £86.8m.

The company said margins also improved.

Sales of Vimto dilute increased by 11% but carbonate sales were down by 6%. Growth continued in African markets and a stronger second half in the Middle East delivered full year international sales of £23.1m, up 2%.

As well as Vimto, which is sold in more than 65 countries, Nichols’ brands include Levi Roots, Weight Watchers, Sunkist, Panda and Extreme Sports and Energy which are sold in the UK.

The company said: “Our balance sheet remains strong and 2013 trading has continued to generate positive cash flow in line with our expectations.  We are well positioned to maintain our performance into 2014 and continue to invest in our brands, including a new creative media campaign for Vimto which will commence in the spring.

“In summary, during 2013 we have successfully increased profitability, delivered good sales growth in the second half of the year and we expect the full year profit and earnings per share to be ahead of the prior year and in line with expectations.”
