Westmorland in fast lane after strong year

ANNUAL profits have surged at family-owned independent motorway service station operator Westmorland.

The Cumbria-based business, which is currently building a new service area on the M5 in Gloucester, saw profits leap 73% from £857,000 to £1.49m.

It said the improvement in profits was the result of higher revenues and an uplift in income from its investments.

Accounts for the business which operates the Tebay services on the M6, the nearby Westmorland Hotel and the Reghed Centre – a visitor attraction – shows turnover growth of £2.9m to £49.6m.

In the year to July 1, Westmorland, whose chief executive Sarah Dunning recently received an OBE, invested around £13m in the M5 project.
