Welsh Brewer expands into the region

SOUTH Wales brewing and hospitality company SA Brain & Co has ventured into the North West with the acquisition of a drinks distribution business.
It has bought W Hall & Son based in Holywell, North Wales, with depots in Congleton, Crewe and Liverpool.
The group said the deal gave it the infrastructure to widen the supply of its beers and expand its retail estate in Wales.
Chief executive, Scott Waddington, said: “At a challenging time for the drinks market, this acquisition reflects our positive long term strategic plan to gain market share.”
W Hall’s managing director, Michael Hall, said: “These two long-established businesses have a great deal in common, in particular our value of customer service above all else.
“SA Brain has strong presence in the wholesale market having purchased similar wholesaler businesses in recent years. Hence, the fit with the Brain business and growth plan is a natural one.”
Cardiff-based SA Brain has more than 250 pubs in Wales and the West Country. It brews a range of beers under the Brains Bitter brand. The value of the deal was not disclosed.
