Pharmacist hopes nursery venture will Bloom

A FORMER pharmacist has launched a new career, with a venture born out of frustration at not being able to find a good nursery for her little girl.
Jill Mackey ,35, has left her job at the Co-operative’s Pharmacy business after 11 years to launch a day nursery in Old Trafford.
Her idea for her business, called Bloom Day Nursery, came after she returned to work after having her first child four years ago and she was disillusioned with the choice of nurseries available south of the city.
A year ago, she found the right location, two Victorian houses with 7,000 sq ft floor area on Talbot Road, which she has been renovating over tje last six months.
Investment includes new flooring throughout the building, replacing 78 windows, building a dedicated sensory room and installing state-of-the-art biometric and external CCTV security systems.
Bloom Day Nursery opens its doors for business in March and already has a waiting list of parents.
Mrs Mackey left her job two months ago and will work full-time at Bloom.
She says: “Many people thought I was mad giving up a secure and well paid job but it became a driving passion. Fortunately, my husband and family were incredibly supportive. It really has gone from a dream into a reality.”
She is confident of having at least 35 full-time staff by 2016 to care for the 90 babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers that Bloom will accomodate.
