Appointments: Space 48; Chester BID & more

WARRINGTON e-commerce agency Space 48, has appointed Alex Shepherd as commercial director.
 
Mr Shepherd joins the Birchwood firm from media buying agency Carat, where he was an associate director. He was with MediaVest for more than 10 years before this.
 
He said: “I am looking forward to the new challenge and have my sights firmly set on delivering real growth across the whole business but with a particular focus on helping to evolve and grow the digital marketing proposition.”
 
Managing director Jon Woodall, added, “As we continue to grow and expand, appointing a talented and experience professional like Alex is paramount. I am looking forward to working closely with Alex and seeing more growth for the business in 2014.”

PETER Lewis has joined CH1 Chester BID (Business Improvement District) Company, as its manager.

Mr Lewis has a long career in local authority including city centre management roles in both Liverpool and Manchester.

Paul Daniels, chairman of CH1 Chester BID Company and managing director of thebestofchester, said: “We have always maintained that having one coherent voice to speak for Chester’s business community is essential and, in Peter, we have found someone who can deliver that 100%.”

In June businesses within a designated area of Chester city centre will be asked to vote on whether or not to pay a 1% levy on top of their business rates, which will go back into the city to make the improvements businesses agree are needed.

INTELLECTUAL Property specialist Appleyard Lees has announced a number of people moves in its Manchester office.

The firm has promoted  Robert Cumming to the role of senior associate in its trade marks team while Richard Bray has moved up to senior associate in the electronics and software unit.

It has also hired two former AstraZeneca employees, Kate Hickinson, as a senior associate in its chemicals team and Alice Smart as an assistant in the life sciences team.

NOTCH Communications, the Manchester creative marketing and PR agency for life science, technology and aviation companies, has made two new hires, Emily Foster and Jenna Woodburn, on the back of new client wins.

Emily Foster, who has a degree in Biomedical Science and PhD in Immunology joins as a scientific copywriter from AstraZeneca, while Jenna Woodburn has taken a new digital account executive position.

Chief executive Peter Brown said: “Notch has grown significantly over the past three years and we are looking forward to further growth and an exciting year ahead.”

The agency has recently established its Swedish branch, Notch Communications AB, in the Uppsala-Stockholm region, at the heart of Scandinavia’s life sciences, pharma and hi tech materials industries.
