Appointments: Solomons steps up at Baker Tilly; Seashell Trust hires FD & more

ACCOUNTANCY firm Baker Tilly has appointed Eric Solomons as head of audit for the North West.

Mr Solomons joined the firm in April last year, having previously worked for BDO. He has nearly 30 years’ experience within the audit sector, advising businesses across a number of industry sectors particularly real estate and construction, recruitment, professional practices and retail/wholesale distribution.

He said: “Our merger last year with RSM Tenon has given us a much greater presence in the audit sector across the region, and it’s important that we continue to build on this and see where we can further develop our service to existing and new clients.

“We’ve seen a number of changes introduced to the audit reporting process recently, and I think business owners are beginning to see the real benefit  of a quality audit. Now that we’re beginning to come out of the economic downturn, I’m looking forward to working with business owners in the region to see how our audit services can add value to their business.”

FORMER Britvic boss Paul Moody will become non-executive chairman of drycleaning and linen hire company Johnson Service Group.

Mr Moody, who has been a non-executive director of the Preston Brook-based company since March 2010, will replace executive chairman, John Talbot, who is stepping down on May 1.

Mr Talbot said: “I am delighted that Paul will succeed me as chairman. As a non-executive director Paul has built strong working relationships with our senior executive team and he has been an active supporter of the major strategic moves which have seen the group focus on, and expand, its core business of textile care.

“Under Paul’s chairmanship I am sure that the group will continue to go from strength to strength.”

ACCOUNTANT Mark Ascroft has joined south Manchester charity Seashell Trust as finance director.

The former PwC senior audit and assurance manager has held a number of senior roles in the financial services sector in the North of England, from group financial controller for a FTSE 250 listed plc to finance director of start-up private equity-funded businesses, encompassing responsibility for operations, finance and IT.

Welcoming Mr Ascroft to the Cheadle Hulme-based charity which educates and cares for disabled young people, Mark Geraghty, chief executive and principal, said: “We are delighted to have Mark Ascroft joining the leadership team and look forward to harnessing his considerable experience and expertise, to move the charity forward, at a very exciting time for Seashell Trust.”

BURY company Hargreaves Ductwork, one the UK’s leading providers of air movement and ventilation ductwork solutions, has appointed Mark Randall as business development manager.

In his new role Mr Randall will be responsible for growing the company’s presence in the pharmaceutical, life sciences and chemical sectors.

He  has more than 15 years’ experience in project management and business development.

Tim Hopkinson, managing director at Hargreaves, said: “Mark brings a wealth of experience to our company from his background in pharmaceuticals and we are very much looking forward to further developing the business in this area.
