Appointments: PwC; Chase Templeton & more

PwC has appointed Manchester-based partner, Heather Varley, to head up its financial services team in the North West. The firm has also appointed Manchester partner, Nick Elliott as its UK leader for building societies.

In her new role, Heather will oversee the firm’s 100 strong financial services practice across its offices in Liverpool and Manchester. She has been with the firm since graduating in 1997 and was made partner last year.

Nick Elliott was also made partner last year. His new role will see him lead the firm’s building societies team nationally, which includes 300 specialists, 45 across the North. Nick has been with PwC for over 20 years, leading the risk team in Manchester for the last three years.
 
Heather Varley said: “With the largest financial services sector outside of London, the North West is a driving force for the industry in the English regions. Having worked in the region for over 13 years, I look forward to taking up this role as banking sentiment continues to improve strongly, mirroring the UK economic rebound.”

Iwan Griffiths, PwC’s North West chairman will continue to oversee the financial services practice across the North.

PRESTON private health specialist Chase Templeton has appointed Terry Shelbourne to to lead its corporate advice department.

Mr Shelbourne was formerly with Bupa, and as head of SME he will be responsible for further driving organic growth and overseeing the integration of any business acquired by the acquisitive company. Reporting to commercial director Richard Holden he will manage a team of 10 consultants offering a broad range of company medical and employee benefit solutions.

Mr Shelbourne, 50, is also a former paramedic and he held a number of managerial roles over 18 years with Mersey Regional Ambulance Service.

EXPRESS Solicitors has boosted its clinical negligence team with new partners Ben Gent and Maria Repanos.
 
Previously a partner with Simpson Millar, Mr Gent heads the clinical negligence team of 11, including seven fee earners and two nurses.

Maria Repanos joins from Irwin Mitchell where she was an associate working on claimant clinical negligence cases ranging from cerebral palsy to amputations.

ELITE, the Lancashire communications company, has appointed Liam Diamond as its first chief technology officer.

An army veteran, Mr Diamond first developed his IT skills in the forces and later worked in systems development for the MoD. He then spent three years in the telecoms sector in New Zealand before returning to the UK to work in various senior IT roles in the technology, car retail, professional services and banking sectors before joining Chorley-based Elite.

THE Chartered Institute of Taxation’s (CIOT) Merseyside branch has appointed Grant Thornton’s Rob Adams as its chair. Mr Adams, a senior tax manager at GT, will take over the role on February 27.

He said: “I am looking forward to stepping up to the Chair position and wish to continue the excellent work that Ronnie Fell has undertaken in the past three years, particularly in supporting members and students and engaging with the Merseyside business community.”
