BBC Showcase returns to Liverpool

THE world’s largest international television market hosted by a single distributor will return to Liverpool later this month.

The BBC’s Showcase, held by the corporation’s commercial arm BBC Worldwide, attracts television buyers from around the world to acquire new shows.

More than 700 delegates are expected at the three-day event which starts at the Arena and Convention Centre on February 23.

The BBC will be showcasing shows such as Top Gear, BBC Earth, Doctor Who, and Sherlock, and feature a range of award-winning writers, producers and talent including the Hollywood writer and director behind Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, Robert B. Weide. He has been working on a new comedy with the actor Nick Frost called Mr Sloane.

Paul Dempsey, president of global markets for BBC Worldwide, said: “We’ve had a phenomenal response to our 38th annual Showcase in Liverpool with many first time attendees including Google Play and DirecTV, making this flagship event for British TV exports the most global yet. We have a great slate of new titles across every genre and are delighted to be hosting some superb talent over the four days of the event.”
