Iceland regains top company crown

ICELAND Foods, the Deeside-based supermarket chain, has been named the Best Big Company to Work For in the UK at the annual Best Companies Awards, reclaiming a title it first won in 2012.
The company, recently featured on a television documentary, also won a special award as Most Improved Big Company while owner and chief executive Malcolm Walker was runner-up in the Best Leader category.
Iceland scored top marks in 19 categories in the 2014 Best Companies survey for the Sunday Times.
Mr Walker said: “At Iceland we’ve always known that Iceland is the best company to work for – not just in the UK, but in the world – and it is great to have this confirmed once again by this much respected award, based on a completely independent survey.
“We have always lived by the principle that happy staff make happy customers, and happy customers put cash in the till. Our future success will continue to be based on offering great products, fantastic value and outstanding service – and on treating our people fairly and doing our utmost to prove that it is possible to do a great job and also have some fun.”
Other North West companies featured include Hilti, which makes tools and has its UK HQ on Trafford Park, which rose 16 places to 24th in the top 100 and data centres firm UK Fast, which was ranked 28th in the small companies section of the survey.
Meanwhile in the not-for-profit segment Tameside-based New Charter Housing Trust Group which owns around 15,500 homes across Greater Manchester, was ranked 7th, up three places on last year’s ranking.
