Buyer sought for Avalon Packaging

AROUND 100 jobs are under threat in Wigan after a packaging company went into administration.
Avalon Packaging, founded 25 years ago, specialises in producing trays and cartons for the food industry.
Dermot Power and Matthew Dunham of the accountancy firm BDO Stoy Hayward were appointed joint administrators on Friday.
They said the business had been hit by the current downturn but they hope to find a buyer.
Mr Power said: “The tough economic climate has played a role in the company’s current challenges but the business has strong foundations to weather the difficulties and that’s why we’re working to sell the business as a going concern – a move that will also protect 100 regional jobs.”
Avalon is based at Martland Park, Wigan.
