Home Bargains expands into Scotland

HOME BARGAINS, the Liverpool-based retailer, is capitalising on changes in consumer shopping habits and opening its first Scottish store in December.

The first store will be opened by Home Bargains owner TJ Morris in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire. It will be closely followed by another in in Clydebank, near Glasgow in January 2009.

The company said it was “thriving” in the current economic climate, as consumers become more price conscious.

It plans to invest over £10m in its first group of stores to open north of the border and by March 2009 will have six stores open within the Glasgow area, employing over 200 people.

Joe Morris, operations director at Home Bargains, said: “Not only will our new stores benefit local economies by providing jobs and new investment, but they will also offer local communities the most popular household brands at exceptionally low prices.”

TJ Morris operates more than 150 Home Bargain stores across the north, Midlands and South Wales.
