150 jobs lost as Lancs care business goes under

MORE than 150 jobs have been lost at a Lancashire care provider, which has been closed amid tough competition and increasing regulation.
Administrators from The P&A Partnership are handling the insolvency of Abacus Care Home Care and Nursing Services (Ormskirk) Limited, which supplied qualified nurses and health care assistants to care homes, hospitals, and secure units as well as providing palliative care and specialist care, and personal and domestic care to clients within their own homes.
A sister company, Abacus Care (Home Care and Nursing Services) Limited, also offered franchises providing care services around the UK.
In a statement P&A Partnership said: “Despite two decades of success, the owners have now had to close both businesses. All 152 staff across both companies have been made redundant.”
Joint administrators Chris White and Gareth Rusling of The P&A Partnership were appointed on April 24.
Mr White said: “Abacus Care Home Care and Nursing Services (Ormskirk) Limited has provided a valuable service across the North West, and across the UK, for a number of years but has fallen victim to growing health care legislation alongside rising competition.
“These factors have made the business unviable, forcing the owners to make the difficult decision to shut down the company.”
