Shield to add 300 Manchester staff

SECURITY firm The Shield Group is opening a new regional headquarters office in Manchester and expects to take on 300 staff over the next two years.

The company, which has recently won a contract with the Imperial War Museum North, has taken space at Bruntwood’s Trafford Plaza in Seymour Place, Trafford Park.

The size of the office had not been disclosed at the time of publication.

London-headquartered Shield, which already has a site in Preston, manages security staff and also has a technology division which offers alarm monitoring services.

It said the Manchester office will be a base for nearly 80 staff and they hope to add 300 by 2016. It will cover the group’s work across the north of England and Scotland.

Chief executive John Roddy said: “The decision to open a regional headquarters in Manchester was an easy one. From the first day we set up office in the city, where Shield has operated for a number of years, we have and continue to experience phenomenal growth.

“The new centre is a smart investment that will bring new employment opportunities to the area as well as provide a welcome boost to the fastest growing economy outside of London.”

The office will be headed by corporate account manager Bradley Cohen. Shield was acquired by the Indian group Topsgrup in 2012. The combined business is expected to have revenues of £170m this year.
