Salford win adds to bright picture for CPUK

BUILDING company Construction Partnership UK has won a contract to refurbish Cathedral House in Salford.

The win comes as the company, known as CPUK, revealed that its order book now stands at  £30m amid demand retail, house-building, health and education.

The Salford project on a Grade II listed building, next to the 19th-century neo-Gothic Catholic cathedral of St John the Evangelist, will take a year to complete.

Steve Burke, managing director of CPUK, said: “This is a challenging project given the nature of the building and the fact our work will take place in a live environment. It calls for the sympathetic restoration of existing stone and timber sash windows, structural repairs and structural alterations to walls and floors.

“The contract also includes complete renewal of mechanical and electrical services installations, full internal fit out and repair and maintenance works to the building fabric.
External works to the courtyard will provide a new car park, pavings, disabled access ramp and balustrades.”

Based in Skelmersdale CPUK says it is seeing activity levels in the construction sector returning to pre-recession levels.

Mr Burke, who co-founded the business in 2000, said: “The recovery that began in 2013 is continuing to gather pace, with positive movement in retail, education and even house-building.

“We are now seeing a much higher level of activity, with the forward pipeline as strong as it has been for five years.”
