MediaCity win for cladding company

THE Manchester office of cladding company James & Taylor is to provide the façade for MediaCity:UK’s multi-storey car park.
The company will engineer and supply 4,000 sq m of mesh cladding and 2,750 sq m of aluminium cladding in different shades of bronze for the 11-deck car park.
Designed by the Manchester office of architects Chapman Taylor, it will form part of the first phase of MediaCity;UK, due for completion in 2011.
As well as space for more than 2,200 cars, the car park will have commercial space at ground level.
Paul Graham, associate director at Chapman Taylor in Manchester, said: “The design [of the mesh cladding] achieves the required ventilation rates through the parking decks while presenting an animated and innovative façade to the principal elevations.
Mr Graham added he commissioned the aluminium cladding after lengthy research. “It provides the aesthetic and high-quality finish that’s needed to complement other buildings on the site,” he said.
“We have selected a combination of three bronze coloured panels, which will be configured in a random pattern to provide a striking elevation to each end of the building.”
