Week Ending: Business Heavyweights; The Rainmakers

WHITE collar boxing tournament Business Heavyweights has confirmed the final contenders for next week’s event.

Twelve brave souls have been skipping, chopping logs, running up and down steps, and chasing sheep in preparation for the event.

Two more so-called trash talks have been recorded to spook out the opposition. This time it’s DLA Piper consultant Andy ‘The Hitman’ Holt and Doug ‘The Uppercut’ Crawford, chief executive of conveyancing specialist MyHomeMove. Their videos are below.

The event, sponsored by BetFred, is being held at the Midland Hotel in Manchester on June 4 and is sold out. Proceeds will go to the Factory Youth Zone in Harpurhey.

Bouts (in no particular order):

Pat ‘The Duke’ Loftus (senior partner at Deloitte) vs ‘Sugar’ Ray Stenton (director at NorthEdge)

John ‘The Freak’ Fowler (chief financial officer at Salford Software) vs Andrew ‘No Nickname’ Gardiner (director at TSG Property Consultants)

Nick ‘White Rhino’ Buckley (senior clerk at Exchange Chambers) vs Mark ‘The Bomber’ Burgess (MD at Capital Properties)

Paul ‘Lights Out’ Lines (director at Altium) vs Dan ‘Goodnight’ Wright (director of transaction services at Deloitte)

Tom ‘Razor’ Sharples (Associate Partner at Ridley Thaw LLP) vs Alex ‘The Animal’ Summerscales (director of costs at Express Solicitors)

Andy ‘The Hitman’ Holt (consultant at DLA Piper) vs Doug ‘Uppercut’ Crawford (chief executive of MyHomeMove)

IT’S already a week since our inaugural Rainmaker Awards, a celebration of the region’s corporate finance community in a year of significant activity, particularly in the public markets.

We wanted an informal celebration of these achievements, which was helped by the compere Justin Moorhouse.

A stand-up comedian by trade he injected a fair dose of irreverent humour which set the event apart from the usual fare – although we would say that wouldn’t we?

So what was Justin’s take on the swashbuckling world of corporate finance?

“Now it’s time for the public markets award. The nominees are: Ashton, Wythenshawe, Bury…”
