Spinningfields’ retail and leisure sales tops £50m

THE combined sales of retail and leisure businesses based in Spinningfields, Manchester, have topped £50m for the first time.

The news of the increase – which follows a number of high profile openings such as fine dining concept Manchester House – came as another new leisure occupier, Thaikhun, opened its doors.

Thaikhun is a casual dining concept from the owners of Thai restaurant chain Chaophraya, Palm Sugar, ChaoBaby and Yee Rah restaurants.

Mike Ingall, chief executive of Spinningfields developer Allied London and the mastermind behind the project said: “We opened the estate seven years ago with just a smattering of chain restaurants but a huge ambition to establish a real leisure and retail destination for Manchester.

“Few believed we’d be able to deliver against this goal but we’ve been quietly building our unique offering. There’s still a lot to do but a rise in retail and leisure turnover from £10m in 2008 to £50m in 2014 is a phenomenal achievement and shows we’re delivering what people want.”

Mr Ingall said he expects “annual double digit” turnover increases as more new operators open there.
