Jobs cut as David McLean goes to the wall

THE administrators of contractor and house builder David McLean group have cut 134 jobs in the contracting division.
Administrators at accountancy firm Deloitte had previously announced the closure of the division, which had struggled to generate a critical mass of profitable contracts for the Deeside-based company.
The decision came as administrators handling Liverpool’s Greenberg Glass Contracts cut just under half the 160-strong workforce.
The total workforce at David McLean Contractors was 139, and the redundancies leave just five staff within the division.
Bill Dawson, partner at Deloitte and joint administrator, said: “We have retained a skeleton staff to work with us to effect an orderly closure of the business.
“We would reiterate that there have been no redundancies in the house building operation, David McLean Homes. We continue to trade this business while we seek to sell it as a going concern, and will provide a further update as things progress.”
David McLean Contractors was placed into administration on Friday October 24, while David McLean Holdings and its subsidiaries, David McLean Developments and David McLean Homes, were placed in administration this Monday.
Nick Edwards, Bill Dawson and Carlton Siddle of Deloitte were appointed as the joint administrators.
