Jaguar Land Rover facing prosecution over worker’s death

CAR manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover is to be prosecuted following the death of a worker at its plant in Halewood, Merseyside three years ago.

Graham Begley, 49 from Halewood, was found trapped between two pieces of heavy machinery at the Speke Boulevard site on September 26, 2011.

Jaguar Land Rover is being prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) over alleged breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and Regulation 3(1) of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.

The HSE said the charges relate to failing to ensure the safety of Mr Begley, and failing to properly assess the risks its employees faced.

The company, which has its head office in Coventry, is due to appear before Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for the first hearing of the case.

JLR, owned by the Indian group Tata, employs around 3,000 staff at the site making the Evoque and the Land Rover Discovery.
