Sales lift at The Fragrance Shop

PERFUME chain The Fragrance Shop saw revenues rise by 11% to £90.1m last year.

The Trafford Park-based group, led by chief executive Sanjay Vadera, said like-for-like sales were up by 8% in the year to March.

According to figures released by the company, earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation were up by 9.2% to £12.4m.

It said the improvement was down to its focus on consumer service and a wide range of products across its 160 stores and an improved online presence.

The company also said managing director Nigel Lawmon was leaving the business after five years to be replaced by former finance director Pete King.

Mr Vadera said: “The Fragrance Shop continues its journey of positive growth in UK multi-channel retail. Our trading figures reflect a returning confidence from consumers, when it comes to purchasing fragrance as part of their fashion wardrobe.

“With luxury and designer brands, such as Chanel, Dior, Gucci and Loewe, accounting for a large proportion of our sales, we are happy we have the best offer available for our customers, wherever and however they want to shop with us – in store, online or mobile. Celebrity fragrances are also proving important in our growth, with One Direction, Beyoncé and David Beckham performing well.”

The Fragrance shop is planning a further 20 store openings this year. It employs around 1,000 staff.
