Property briefs: Manchester City; Russells; Styles&Wood

MANCHESTER City Football Club has started work on the second phase of its stadium expansion which involves adding 2,000 seats in three rows around the edge of the pitch.

Work has already started on the first phase – an extra 6,000 seats in the South Stand. Together the changes, which will be finished for the 2015-16 season, will increase capacity from 47,000 to 55,000.

The club also has permission to add an extra 6,000 seats at the North Stand, taking capacity to 61,000.

Commercial officer Tom Glick said: “We have always been committed to bringing fans closer to Manchester City, to the players and to the pitch. Whether that’s through digital innovation, community work, international tours, or as in this case, physically allowing fans to be right next to the action, it is our top priority. We are already looking forward to seeing the expanded stadium in action for the 15/16 season.”

Sister company Russell Homes secured the deal with both operators and is currently marketing an adjacent 2.5-acre plot for food, retail, or leisure use. Russell Homes also brought forward a neighbouring site for residential use with Countryside Properties which is now building 143 affordable properties.
