Carillion bags £75m Anfield contract

CARILLION has been appointed as the preferred bidder for the £75m contract to extend the main stand Liverpool FC’s Anfield stadium.

Supporters will cross a large plaza and enter the ground by walking up a large ramp at the stand above a new home for the Hillsborough Memorial. There are also plans for a further 4,800 seats at the Anfield Road end which would give the stadium a capacity of 58,800.

Carillion said Work is expected to start later in the year, subject to planning consent. It intends to hire 50 aprentices for the project.

Chief executive, Richard Howson, said: “I believe that being selected for this prestigious project reflects Carillion’s reputation for high standards of quality, Health and Safety and sustainability. We look forward to working closely with Liverpool Football Club to create new world-class facilities at its famous Anfield Stadium.”

The work is linked to a wider Anfield regeneration plan that also involves Liverpool City Council, the social landlord Your Housing, and construction firm Keepmoat. The Anfield designs have been drawn up by London-based KSS Architects.
