Brother-ly love: Phil Jones becomes president of Forever Manchester

BROTHER UK boss Phil Jones, one of Manchester’s leading business figures, has been appointed president of the charity Forever Manchester, the community foundation.

It’s the first time in its 25 year history that the organisation has appointed a president from the business community and Mr Jones will serve a three-year term in the role.

Mr Jones said: “Forever Manchester makes an extraordinary difference to ordinary people living in communities across Greater Manchester. Unlike the big national and regional single-issue charities, Forever Manchester backs good ideas and projects that are hyper-local and provides funds to people that would otherwise have no access to money to improve the wellbeing and happiness of local people in their area.

“Put simply, the foundation acts like a secret millionaire, giving money directly to people and organisations that often fly under the radar but which make a massive difference to people in local communities.”

Last year Forever Manchester donated more than £4m to communities in Greater Manchester.

Nick Massey, chief executive of Forever Manchester, said: “This is a great birthday present for Forever Manchester. We’re delighted that Phil has agreed to take on this important role. It further strengthens our commitment to work with the business community to develop thriving local communities.”

The Duke of Westminster, who has been president of Forever Manchester for more than 20 years, has become Honorary Life President.
