Select Property plans upmarket block for Greengate

SELECT Property has submitted plans for a 17-storey upmarket apartment block next to Ask Developments’ Embankment office site in Salford.

The Chapel Street plot, close to Manchester Cathedral, sits within the Greengate masterplan area that Ask has been working on with the city council and Network Rail since 2005. It is now on site with the first 167,000 sq ft office block and a car park.

Ask’s former managing director Ken Knott took a stake in Alderley Edge-based Select last year and now sits on the board. Select, set up by Mark Stott, is also involved with Ask’s First Street scheme in Manchester where it is building an apartment block aimed at wealthy foreign students.

According to plans lodged with Salford City Council, Select wants to build 263 mostly one and two-bed apartments for both owner-occupiers and investors, along with a gym, swimming pool and lounge on the top floor.

The application has been made through a new subsidiary called City Suites which will seek to offer a “high quality, fully managed concept” to young professionals in the same vein as Vita Student – a joint venture with Chris Oakes of Alderley Edge-based upmarket developer Huntsmere.

Select is also active in selling off-plan apartments in the Gulf states. The architect on the Chapel Street scheme is London-based Flanagan Lawrence. The planning application is being handled by Deloitte Real Estate.
