Cine City flats plan set for refusal

PLANNERS in Manchester want to knock back proposals for a 25-apartment block on the site of Withington’s old Cine City cinema.

The Wilmslow Road site has been vacant since the cinema’s demolition in 2008 but planning officers say the design of the four-storey building is not sympathetic to neighbouring buildings and will cause congestion as there is no provision for parking.

They have recommended it is refused when it is considered by the city’s planning committee next week.

Withington-based Britannia Property Group, owned by Mohammad Jamil, is behind the plan which is a revision of an earlier proposal.

Cine City was said to be the third cinema to be built in the UK.
