Appointments: Berg & Co; HRC Law; My Parcel Delivery & more

MANCHESTER law firm Berg has bolstered its ranks with the hire of two new solicitors.

Edward Saidu joins the Peter Street-based firm from Turner Parkinson and will work in its insolvency and restructuring team, while Samantha Hulme, a dispute resolution specialist, has joined from the Manchester office of national firm DWF. A third new hire is legal cashier Kirsty Edwards, who has also moved from DWF.

Berg’s senior partner, Reuben Berg, added: “These three key hires provide an additional boost to our talented team here at Berg as we look to grow and develop our client offering, particularly for those businesses affected by the mis-selling of financial derivatives.”

HRC Law, the expanding Manchester firm founded in April 2013, has  strengthened its team with the appointment of associate Sarah Armstrong, who is experienced in both employment and commercial litigation.

Having trained in London firm and practiced as a solicitor for more than 15 years,  she has worked in firms in this country and in Australia. She is HRC’s ninth recruit.

Founder and managing partner Simon Whitehead said: “Having Sarah on board will allow us to continue with the expansion of our employment department. Sarah also brings to the table her commercial litigation expertise which will be invaluable to our clients as we are regularly instructed in relation to restrictive covenant issues and business protection issues generally.

HRC has recently moved from serviced offices to its new home at Brook House, Spring Gardens.

MY Parcel Delivery, the Manchester company which operates a price comparison website has made a key hire with the appointment of lead web designer Duane Dobson.

Mr Dobson joins the ambitious firm from Bolton-based AO, one of the region’s biggest e-commerce success stories of recent years.
In his new role he is leading a project to improve My Parcel Delivery’s website capability to function responsively across all devices and to focus on web page optimisation and customer conversion rates.

He said: “The learning I’m able to bring to My Parcel Delivery from ao.com is about how to get the very best out of an e-commerce website and ensure that it works, converts and sells. The work with my development team here will mean making the site cleverer for users, improving the customer’s journey and user experience and really understanding what they need based on whatever computer device they’re using to book parcel delivery – be it desktop, tablet or mobile phone.”

GARETH Steggles has been promoted to the role of managing consultant for logistics north at the Manchester office of recruitment company Cast UK.

Mr Steggles from Bolton, joined the company’s Manchester office in 2010, and is now responsible for overseeing a team of consultants, leading the business development programme and managing key accounts within the logistics sector.

RICHARD Morley, divisional director at wealth management firm Brewin Dolphin, has been elected president of the Manchester and District branch of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI).
 
The CISI is the largest professional body for those who work in the securities and investment industry in the UK and increasingly around the world.
 
Mr Morley said: “I am honoured to be taking on the role of president of our hard-working regional committee.  I look forward to continuing the Institute’s excellent work for the next two years and engaging with all of our members in the region.
