Tyson targets bright future following MBO

THE managing director of Blackburn-based Tyson Lighting has taken control of the business from his family.

Andrew Gibson has bought the firm from his father Philip, mother Carol and uncle John Gibson. Philip Gibson will stay on as group chairman.

The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

The £3m turnover firm specialises in the design, manufacture, supply of traditional, bespoke and contemporary lighting.

It works in the retail, hotel and leisure sectors for clients including Harvey’s Furniture Store, Pizza Hut, pub group Greene King, KFC and TGI Fridays’ restaurants globally.

Tyson, which has a 20,000 sq ft facility in Blackburn, is now targeting international growth in Asia and Europe. It has taken on a sales agent in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and has agreed a partnership with a Saignon-based architect.

Mr Gibson said: “We’re nimble enough in size to move with fashion and trends whilst simultaneously anticipating client and market demand both in the UK and internationally. We are working hard to secure long term partnerships with specifiers and clients who we know rely on us to be a well-educated and efficient authority in lighting.”

The Blackburn office of Farleys Solicitors provided legal advice, with corporate partner Debbie King handling the contracts. Egan Roberts of Blackburn handled the financial side of the deal, led by Principal Keith Roberts.
