Bolton lawyer wins top award

ANDREW Underwood has been named defendant personal injury lawyer of the year.

The partner at Bolton law firm Keoghs scooped the accolade at the 2008 Personal Injury Awards at the Café Royal in London, hosted by Joshua Rozenberg.

Andrew was one of the principal lawyers involved in establishing the Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL) in 1993.  He sat on the executive committee for 12 years and was national president in 2004/5.

In his current role as chair of the Rules and Process Special Interest Group, Andrew is responsible for coordinating and drafting consultation responses and work on the ongoing Ministry of Justice process reforms.

Andrew, who is currently handling catastrophic injury cases with a combined value of more than £150m, said: “I was very surprised when I was nominated in the first place – to be included on the shortlist amongst such talented lawyers was very flattering.  I really didn’t expect that I would win, but obviously I’m delighted.”

Meanwhile, Manchester-based law firm Rowlands has appointed Andrew Parkinson to the role of business development manager in the personal injury department.

Andrew’s role with Rowlands will predominantly focus on developing the personal injury department, although he will continue to work on a number of fee-earning cases. His previous role was managing director of Discount Legal Services.
