Aviation department takes off for Bott & Co

LAW firm Bott & Co, has reported strong progress for its newest department, aviation, which has recovered £2m in compensation for nearly 6,000 passengers affected by flight delays.

The £12m turnover Wilmslow-based practice, which is primarily a personal injury specialist, launched its aviation department in February 2013. The team was set up to help customers obtain redress under EU Regulation  261, which says passengers could be entitled to up to €600 in compensation for cancellations or delays of more than three hours when flying from an EU airport or landing at an EU airport on an EU carrier.

Bott & Co has now settled claims against 55 airlines, from budget operators such as easyJet and Ryanair to scheduled carriers including Emirates and Singapore Airlines.

The firm is one of the leading players in this area of the law and in July won two landmark cases at the Court of Appeal –  Huzar v Jet2.com and Dawson v Thomson Airways, which has generated significant media attention, including  an appearance on BBC’s The One Show.

David Bott, senior partner at Bott & Co, said: “Passing the £2m barrier is a huge landmark for us.  We’re really proud to have been able to help so many people get the compensation that is rightfully owed to them.

“We’ve still got a lot of work ahead of us to let as many people as possible know their rights when it comes to flight delay compensation but it’s a great buzz to know we’re helping normal people take on the Goliath-type might of the airlines.”
