Claims start-up venture off to a flyer

A COMPANY launched just six weeks ago to seek compensation for delayed airline passengers, is reporting a maiden success.

Airline Compensation, based in Sale, Greater Manchester, is handling more than £40,000 claims and has already won £6,000 for stag party delayed for five hours flying from Manchester to Lisbon.

Founded by claims sector professionals Jamie Munro and Marcus Metcalfe, the company is hoping to take advantage of EU legislation that airlines must compensate passengers for delays of three hours or more.

Joint managing Jamie Munro said: “’We were prompted to launch Airline Compensation following the recent EU ruling in passengers’ favour that opened the flood gates for airline compensation claims.  Passengers have the right to claim for delays that have affected flights within Europe or on European airlines, and they can back-date claims for delays they’ve experienced any time in the last six years. We’ve had such strong results for our personal injury clients, that this was the natural next step for us.

“We’ve been met with a hugely positive response from passengers, many of whom have tried to claim compensation from the airlines themselves.”

He added: “We’re seeing an upward spike in compensation claims as we’re nearing the end of the summer, and more and more people realise it’s their entitlement.

“While there will certainly be seasonal peaks to our business:  summer and skiing seasons will always be the busiest times, we’re expecting a steady flow of claims throughout the year, as we’re already receiving claims dating back to flights from four or five years ago.”
