THE Rugby Football League (RFL) has appointed Manchester lawyer Nigel Roberts as the sport’s head of salary cap and registrations.
Roberts currently works for criminal defence solicitors Stephen Lickrish and Associates and will take up his new role in early November.
He has significant expertise in white collar fraud, commercial fraud, money laundering and regulatory cases.
RFL chief operating officer Ralph Rimmer said: “It gives me great pleasure to welcome Nigel to the organisation. His considerable experience in the financial and legal worlds will enhance the operation and policing of the Rugby League salary caps as the sport enters an exciting new era.”

LAW firm SAS Daniels has retained two newly qualified solicitors, Steven Percy and Caroline Fearns, after they completed the firm’s two-year training programme.
Percy, who passed his legal practice course with distinction at BPP Law School, spent a year working for DAC Beachcroft as a paralegal before joining SAS Daniels’ training programme in 2012.
Now part of the real estate team, he will focus on commercial landlord and tenant work, commercial property sales and acquisitions, refinancing and development work across the firm’s Stockport and Macclesfield offices.
Fearns also joined the firm in 2012 on a training contract after working at Plexus Law as a paralegal in Manchester. Training with the family, litigation and private client teams, she will now specialise in estate administration and trusts and will be based at the firm’s Stockport office.

SALFORD data centre business Datecentered has appointed Ben O’Brien as financial controller.
He will be responsible for developing and managing the finance department including reporting, auditing, tax, accounting and credit control.
P’Brien joins from Webuyanycar.com where he held the position of commercial finance analyst, before which he was finance manager at Serco Leisure.
It is the second senior role to be filled within the company with assistance from senior financial recruitment firm, Rowan Finance.
