Select’s upmarket Salford scheme approved

SELECT Property has been given the go-ahead for a 17-storey, 260-apartment block next to Ask Developments’ Embankment office site in Salford.
The Chapel Street plot, close to Manchester Cathedral, sits within the Greengate masterplan area that Ask has been working on with the city council and Network Rail since 2005. It is now on site with the first 167,000 sq ft office block and a car park.
Ask’s former managing director Ken Knott took a stake in Alderley Edge-based Select last year and now sits on the board.
Select, set up by Mark Stott, is also involved with Ask’s First Street scheme in Manchester where it has completed an apartment block aimed at wealthy foreign students.
The application has been made through a new subsidiary called City Suites which will seek to offer a “high quality, fully managed concept” to young professionals in the same vein as Vita Student – a joint venture with Chris Oakes of Alderley Edge-based upmarket developer Huntsmere.
Mr Stott said: “We are delighted to have been granted planning permission for the City Suites scheme. Our new concept in rented living is ideal for the growing number of professionals who want city centre living and the location of Greengate/Chapel Street is superb. It is the perfect gateway to everything the city has to offer.”
The architect on the Chapel Street scheme is London-based Flanagan Lawrence. The planning application was handled by Deloitte Real Estate.
