Appointments: New partner for GT; Berg; Stark Brooks & more

PHILIP Grindley has joined Grant Thornton as a partner and head of its Transaction Advisory Services team in the North West.

Mr Grindley, previously based in Germany with PwC, will lead a team of eight based in Manchester.  He has more than 14 years’ experience of providing transaction and due diligence advice for corporate and private equity clients.

Ali Sharifi, national head of the firm’s corporate finance practice said: “Philip’s appointment is just the beginning of the growth plan for the advisory team. There are ambitious plans ahead and with his experience, Philip will play a key role in moving those forward.”

Mr Grindley said: “I’d been looking to move back to the UK for some time and Grant Thornton seemed like the perfect fit. The firm has exciting plans for the North West practice and it’s a great time to be joining. The advisory team is already extremely well respected in the market and I’m really looking forward to working with them.”

MANCHESTER law firm Berg has strengthened its litigation and property team with a trio of appointments.

Two new starters have joined the dispute resolution team, including solicitors Carlyn Weale from Turner Parkinson and Wynter O’Connor, previously of Clarke Willmott in Bristol.

Both will work on a range of commercial disputes including banking and financial claims, shareholder disputes, breach of contract and professional negligence claims.

Associate solicitor Liz Whitfield, previously head of legal services at Your Housing Group, has also joined and will handle property law, including investments and refinancing.

MANCHESTER law firm Read Roper and Read has appointed Nicola Stanley and Matthew Conning.

Stanley joins from the banking litigation team at Walker Morris having previously been at Cobbetts in Leeds.

She will primarily work with Partner, Avi Barr, providing property litigation expertise within the firm’s, ‘Leases for Landlords’ department and to the firm’s clients on general property matters.

Matthew Conning joins from McHale and Co in Altrincham having recently qualified. He will join Avi Barr’s team undertaking commercial property non-contentious work.

RECRUITMENT firm Stark Brooks has taken on four consultants in Manchester.

They are: Matt Tate, 24, who has joined from The SF Group; graduate trainee Jack Hampson, 22; school leaver Adam Sweeney, 19; and Jessie Parkin, 20, who has joined on a one-year placement from Manchester Metropolitan University.

They will focus on accountancy and finance posts in commerce and industry across the North West.
