Shearings’ commercial director joins rival

SHEARINGS’ commercial director Alan MacLean has left for a rival business a year after being appointed.
Mr MacLean has taken a job with Cosmos Holidays, parent of the Monarch Group, where it is understood he will head its specialist businesses including Cosmos Coach Tours, Distant Dreams and its Finnish Lapland programme.
He joined Shearings, the Wigan-based coach holidays group, following a boardroom shake-up which saw new chief executive Denis Wormwell introduce Vince Flower as chief operating officer for the coach and hotels business, Jane Burke as people and services director and Mr MacLean, who joined from Saga.
In a statement Shearings said: “Alan MacLean is leaving the company to join the Monarch Group on January 5. As a result of Alan’s departure we have reviewed the structure of our commercial department, and are delighted to announce that Caroline Brown will be heading up the product team and Fiona Greenhalgh will be heading up sales and marketing.”
Shearings was formed in 2005 following the merger of Shearings with Leeds-based Wallace Arnold, valued at around £200m. The new business was called WA Shearings but the ‘WA’ has been dropped by Mr Wormwell.
The business made a pre-tax loss of £854,000 in the 12 months to December 2007 on sales of £179.4m. The previous year it made a profit of £20.4m on sales of £178.4m. It employs 2,700 people.
