FWP gives the Queens a royal makeover

ARCHITECTURE and design practice the Frank Whittle Partnership (FWP) is overseeing the refurbishment of one of the Lake District’s best known hotels.
The practice’s design team has created the new look for the Queens Hotel in Keswick after it became the latest member of the Lake District Hotels family.
FWP, which has offices in Preston and Manchester, has already spearheaded the upgrade of all the company’s hotels in Cumbria – delivering contemporary bedrooms and public spaces through its interior design expertise.
The new look for the Queens will see 34 en-suite bedrooms, including new feature rooms and easy access hotel accommodation.
The town centre hotel will also get a new restaurant concept unique to the area, a redesigned bar and lounge area and a restyled reception. An open display kitchen is also part of the revamp.
Work has begun on the major refurbishment and the hotel is scheduled to reveal its new look when it reopens its doors to guests this Easter.
FWP has successfully delivered revamps for The Borrowdale Hotel, The Skiddaw Hotel, near Keswick, Lodore Falls at Derwentwater, the George Hotel in Penrith and the Inn on the Lake at Glennridding – all members of the Graves family-owned group.
It was appointed to oversee the Queens refurbishment after Lake District Hotels bought the building in April last year. It became the seventh hotel in the group’s portfolio.
FWP has worked closely with group managing director Kit Graves and marketing director Dani Hope on the project. The group is owned by the Graves family.
David Simmons of FWP said: “Lake District Hotels are all about quality and individuality and our designs look to enhance the offering and experience for guests.
“The Queens Hotel is the latest of their flagship venues and we are delighted to be part of the team delivering a new era for such a well-known building which is part of the heart of Keswick.”
