Appointments: Indigo Planning, Powell Williams, Thomasons and more

INDIGO Planning has promoted Andrew Johnston to associate director.
 
Based at the company’s Manchester office, Johnston has more than 10 years’ experience across the residential and commercial sectors working primarily with developers and landowners.

He specialises in local plan promotion, neighbourhood planning, housing land supply and green belt issues.
 
His recent work includes strategic residential schemes, in particular, gaining planning consent for a 40 ha (98 acre) urban extension to the Gateford area of Worksop, Derbyshire for 750 new family homes and a primary school.
 
Doug Hann, director of Indigo Planning and head of its Manchester office, said: “Andrew’s promotion will further strengthen our resource and ensure our clients continue to receive effective strategic advice to help them secure major planning consents across the region. Andrew is a key member of the team and his promotion is testament to his expertise, knowledge and dedication.”

Jen Popplewell has also been promoted to Senior Planner in the Manchester office, and will step up to manage a number of the company’s major commercial and residential projects.

NATIONAL building consultancy Powell Williams has boosted its Chester team with a new graduate surveyor.

Chris Brand has joined the company from Sheffield Hallam University and will now work towards his Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) to achie3ve RICS status.

He is one of three new graduates taken on by Powell Williams, with Adam Richardson joining the Birmingham team and Casey Berridge at the London office.

MANCHESTER-based civil and structural engineering practice Thomasons has promoted associates Michael Broadbent and Heather Mannings to technical directors.

Broadbent has been a chartered structural engineer for more than 30 years and has extensive experience across a diverse range of construction projects spanning the commercial, retail and education sectors.

Mannings specialises in investigating structural defects in both modern and historic buildings, reporting on the effects of dereliction, impact, fire and subsidence damage together with design and structural errors.

Her work encompasses homes and commercial premises, and includes the iconic Grade II listed Royal Exchange in Manchester.

CONSTRUCTION industry specialist The Vinden Partnership has bolstered its dispute resolution offering with the appointment of Jeremy Sutcliffe.

Sutcliffe is listed on every major adjudication and arbitration panel in the UK and overseas and the company – with offices in Bolton, Nottingham and London – says his appointment is a huge gain.
 
Managing director Peter Vinden said: “We are honoured to have Jeremy on board – he is well known in the domestic and international stages, and with over 35 years’ of experience of claims in construction and civil engineering, he is a valuable addition to our team.”
