Recruitment firm grows by 120%

MERJE, the Manchester-based recruitment consultancy, has grown its turnover by 120 per cent – to £3.76m for the year 2014, following the end of the financial year.

Following its expansion into the wealth management sector, the agency’s profit has also increased by a quarter over the last 12 months, with a significant proportion of the growth attributed to the development of their senior interim offering, primarily across the Financial Services sector.

Launched in October 2011, Merje has quickly become one of the UK’s most successful independently-owned consultancies and has adopted an ambitious growth strategy by continuing to bolster its team of specialists, in order to provide new offerings across the financial, audit, fraud, customer contact compliance and risk markets.

The agency’s success has been spearheaded by a number of high profile contract wins, with Merje signing terms with new clients in the last six months including VISA, Centrica, Barratt Developments PLC, Ernst & Young, BDO and the Co-Operative Group.

Director, Jonathan Abelson, said: “Our significant growth is not just down to the development of our client portfolio, it can also be attributed to the team. Each member of our staff has an extensive background in their target sector, providing dedicated expertise to our network of clients and candidates.”

Merje boasts a 100 per cent staff retention rate, with five employees joining its team over the last year. The total number of staff has increased to 18, with the headcount expected to reach up to 30 by the end of 2015. Due to this expansion, the company has relocated its London office to premises in Old Bailey.

Edward Manson, co-founding director based in Merje’s London office, commented: “Recruitment is a sector that revolves around the importance of people. Our team is dedicated to consistently strengthening relationships. This means that many of our earliest clients have chosen to stay with us due to our ability to execute impressive customer service whilst providing high-quality, skilled candidates.”

Last year, MERJE became the only North West recruiter to win at the prestigious APSCo Awards for Excellence 2014, scooping ‘Recruitment Company of the Year under £5 million turnover’.
