Appointments: MAG Property; Michael Hyde & more

MANCHESTER Airport Group’s property and development division has made twop key strategic hires.

Jonathan Haigh has joined as director of development management & infrastructure; and Ken Mellis as head of estates.

Haigh is an experienced property dealmaker with expertise in large scale, mixed use and multi phased developments. He is a chartered surveyor and joins MAG Property from PwC, where he was real estate director since September 2009.

Prior to that he was development director at Ballymore for over five years, and has led a number of major schemes and transactions across all main property sectors and in UK and international markets

Ken Mellis will oversee facilities management of the full investment portfolio for the business, which extends across London Stansted, Manchester, East Midlands and Bournemouth airports.

He was previously real estate manager for BAE SYSTEMS Properties for the last seven years and his past experience saw him work on establishing and implementing a number of Enterprise Zones across three BAE Systems sites in Lancashire and Humberside.

NORTH west architects, Michael  Hyde and Associates has expanded its team with the appointment of Hilary Garrett, a marketing specialist who brings more than 25 years’ experience to the firm.
 
Garrett  will be based in the firm’s head office in Manchester but will have responsibility for advising on the firm’s marketing and business development activities in the North West and Yorkshire.

KIERAN Rabbitt, , director of managed house operations at Middletn-based brewer JW Lees, has left the business.

Managing director William Lees-Jones said: “Kieran has worked for JW Lees for two years and has made a great impact on our business, focusing on the guest experience and implementing a wide range of initiatives that have grown our business in like-for-like sales and profit terms.  He attracted a high calibre of people to JW Lees who enjoy our values and form the bedrock of our future success.

CBRE has recruited associate director Gareth Hughes and surveyor James Kington at it Manchester office.

The company says the appointments ared a direct result of the improving regional market.

CBRE’s North West team collectively values about £3.75bn of property in the regional for institutional funds and £5bn worth of property for banks, building societies and property companies.

Head of valuation advisory for the the North West at CBRE, Siobhan Fraser, said: “The two new appointments will position us well to deal with the increasing pick-up in the market and allow us to deliver the breadth and depth of commercial property expertise and client service for which CBRE is well known.”

NORTHWest law firm Brabners has boosted its property solutions team in Liverpool with the appointment of three solicitors.
 
The most recent recruit is Hannah Carter who joins the firm from DWF LLP in Liverpool and has experience in resolving all aspects of property disputes including commercial, agricultural and residential matters.
 
Her appointment follows the arrival of senior associate Karen Beddow, who previously worked at DWF and Addleshaws and specialises in resolving retail property disputes, portfolio management issues and other claims arising from property transactions, and solicitor Heather Morris who advises on a wide range of property disputes including high value professional negligence claims arising from real estate transactions.

VINCENTS Solicitors has boosted its personal injury practice with the appointment of Carlos Lopez, a specialist clinical negligence lawyer.

Based in Preston, Lopez will join Vincents’ senior management team as a director, working alongside directors of personal injury, Olivia Robinson and Phillip Gilmore. He will be responsible for growing the firm’s clinical negligence offering, both locally and nationally including expanding the team.

With 19 years’ experience, Lopez started his career as a barrister before qualifying as a solicitor and is also a member of the Law Society’s Personal Injury Panel. His expertise is in catastrophic and serious clinical negligence such as spinal, brain and head injuries, amputation and oncology.

He has dealt with a wide range of cases, including claims against GPs, hospitals, consultants and private clinics as well as major settlements such as securing £2.5m for a client whose spine was fractured following a failure to diagnose tuberculosis.
