Cheshire East on a victory roll

CHESHIRE East Council has notched up three more planning appeal victories against ‘unsustainable development’ in the Borough.
 
The authority has successfully defended its decisions to refuse planning permission for 300 homes in Church Lane, Wistaston and 130 new homes on land off Sandbach Road North, in Alsager. Both appeals were brought by developer Gladman for green field sites.
 
A High Court judge has also backed Cheshire East Council’s refusal of planning permission for Richborough Estate’s controversial Moorfields scheme for 146 homes in Willaston.
 
The authority says the rulings represent further vindication of the Council’s strong opposition to ‘unsustainable’ development on green field sites.
 
All three cases highlight the importance of the Council’s ‘green gap’ policy and its commitment to preserving the best of the Cheshire countryside.
 
These latest successes follow victories last month in three separate appeals against proposals to build a total of 955 homes, including two schemes in the Shavington area.
 
Cheshire East Council Leader Councillor Michael Jones said the recent decisions show the Council was right to continue to contest developments that are viewed as “unsuitable and unsustainable”.
 
Cllr Jones added: “These decisions further vindicate our fresh approach to promoting sustainable development through planning decisions.
 
“I am committed to ensuring all new development conforms to sustainable principles and we will vigorously oppose any development that falls short.
 
“People can be assured that we will make every effort to prevent inappropriate development, to preserve our precious heritage and get the right development in the right location.”
 
Councillor Don Stockton, Cabinet member in charge of housing and jobs said: “I welcome these latest appeal decisions, which demonstrate that Cheshire countryside can be protected from inappropriate development.”
