£35m Liverpool gateway plans set for approval

PLANS for the £35m regeneration of the transport gateway into Liverpool at Lime Street have been put forward to the city council.

Regeneration Liverpool and Neptune Developments have submitted a proposal for a mixed-use development comprising ground floor commercial retail and leisure uses with a hotel above coupled with student accommodation, associated landscaping, servicing and access.

It also includes the refurbishment of 45 Lime Street and the partial demolition of 79 Lime Street and all other existing buildings.

Joint venture partners Neptune and Regeneration Liverpool have said their driving force of their plan is to improve the first impressions of people arriving at arriving at Lime Street Station.

Neptune development manager Rob Mason said: “Lime Street is one of  Liverpool’s most important gateways and we have brought forward this phase to ensure people arriving in the city get a positive impression and are not confronted by a scruffy and semi-derelict site.

“This will be a massive improvement featuring contemporary but sympathetic architecture from the multi-award winning design team at Broadway Malyan.”
